I'd like to poll the members here to find out if there would be any interest in an open-source version of ShotRunner? This would allow people to download and modify the source, contribute fixes/enhancements, and also run a version locally. I would continue to offer a fully hosted option.
ShotRunner is written using Ruby on Rails. We just completed a migration to Rails 3.0. There is a Python API. It utilizes Amazon S3 for file storage, Zencoder for video encoding, and SendGrid for outbound email notifications.
What are the considerations in doing this? I imagine it could open up some security concerns. Would anyone in VFX-land actually be able to make use of the source?
